About Math on the Move

Hi! I'm Laura Lott-Manzano, founder of Math on the Move (M.O.M.), and I'm so glad you're here!

For nearly 30 years, my career has been centered around helping people succeed. I began by spending 15 years in retail sales management, customer service, and banking, where I learned the importance of building relationships, solving problems, and understanding the financial decisions people face every day.

My passion for helping others eventually led me into education, where I have proudly served as a classroom teacher for 13 years. During that time, I taught Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade, and later served as a Math Staff Development Teacher, coaching educators and supporting high-quality mathematics instruction. For the past four years, I've also worked as a private tutor, helping students make significant gains in mathematics, improve their grades, and increase their standardized test scores.

One thing I've learned throughout my career is that every student can succeed when they're taught in a way that fits how they learn. That's why I created Math on the Move (M.O.M.)—to bring personalized, engaging instruction directly to families throughout San Antonio and the surrounding communities. Whether I meet with students in their homes, at a library, in another community setting, or online, my goal is always the same: build confidence, make learning enjoyable, and help every learner reach their full potential.

At M.O.M., I offer much more than traditional tutoring. I provide:

Personal Financial Literacy has become an important part of my mission because I believe understanding money is one of the most valuable life skills a person can have. Drawing on my background in banking and business, I help learners develop practical skills in budgeting, banking, credit, saving, and making informed financial decisions so they can confidently navigate today's complex financial world.

If you ask my students what makes my tutoring different, many will tell you one thing: I make math fun! I use hands-on activities, games, technology, real-world applications, and plenty of encouragement to help students discover that math isn't something to fear—it's something they can understand and even enjoy.

Outside of education, I'm also a working comedian. Humor has taught me how to connect with people, create positive learning environments, and remind students that it's okay to laugh, make mistakes, and keep learning. That same energy and enthusiasm are part of every tutoring session.

As Math on the Move continues to grow, I look forward to expanding my services to include motivational speaking and professional development for educators, encouraging teachers to rediscover the joy of teaching while inspiring students to believe in themselves.
